The Department of Social Sciences (DSS) organized a lunch party for sustaining their tradition of welcoming new members, congratulating colleagues and giving farewell to departing members. Prof Dr Abdul Hameed, Dean, School of Social Sciences and Humanities, graced the auspicious occasion with his presence. The event commenced with the recitation of few verses from the Holy Quran by Muhammad Hanif, Research Assistant, DSS.
Dr Abdul Hameed introduced and welcomed the new members of the faculty. The new members included Razaullah (Sociology), Rashid Khan (Mass Media and Communication), Huma Shahid (Psychology) and Rabia Zeeshan Fareed (Psychology). Dr Hameed and all the faculty members of the department also congratulated Bushra Akram for completion of her PhD. In return, Bushra thanked all her colleagues and acknowledged the efforts of Dr Abdul Hameed as a supervisor. Dr Abdul Hameed came up with the idea of arranging informal faculty seminars on contemporary issues in different disciplines of social sciences for professional development. It was decided that there will be a faculty seminar on every second Monday of each month.
The occasion marked the farewell of Ambreen Salahuddin who has left the department in order to concentrate and complete her PhD. Ambreen served the department for four years and was instrumental in its development. Dr Hameed acknowledged her tireless efforts in laying the foundation of the department and said that she was one of its strongest pillars. He said that her professional competence, dedication and creativity were appreciated by her students and all those who worked with her. He concluded by wishing her success in every field of life.
Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, Associate Professor, said that Ambreen as a very dynamic and multi-talented colleague. Asma Nouman appreciated her supportive nature as a colleague and acknowledged her abilities as a student advisor.
In return, Ambreen thanked Dr Hameed for arranging such a buoyant farewell; she also thanked the entire faculty for acknowledging her presence in the department in such a prolific manner. On a special note, she thanked Dr Abdul Hameed for assigning various responsibilities to her and then giving her independence in their completion. This she said, helped her to learn as she worked and she owed much of her professional growth to such tasks.
Finally, bouquets were presented to Ms. Ambreen, Ms. Bushra and all the new faculty members as a goodwill gesture. The program ended with a delicious lunch enjoyed by all.
