Post Event Report of Day-I of Educational Conference on” Developing School Leaders and Teachers School of professional Advancement, the students of MSM and MS SLM under the guidance of Dr Farhat Munir has conducted two day educational conference on developing school leaders and teachers. The main objectives of this research forum were; • To establish effective and sustainable university & schools partnership in developing school leaders and preparing teachers for the forthcoming professional challenges • To identify and share the research based best international and national academic and management practices in schools More than 260 professionals from Kasoor, Sheikhupra, Gunjarawala, Jhang, okara ,Raheem yaar khan and Lahore with diverse academic and professional background (Principals,vice principals, teachers, academic coordinators, directors, manager academic and manager HR and school administrators) participated in the event. The event was distributed in two days. The Day-I was the orientation of the session regarding issues and challenges for schools with some motivational talks. Dr Farhat Munir gave the orientation of the program by reflecting on the country’s current state of schools with some research based findings and highlighted the lack of specialized educational opportunities in Pakistan both for teachers and principals. She also discussed the gaps and conventional approaches in professional training and signifying the acquisition of professional and specialized education by adapting new ways of teaching, administrative and leadership skills. She also introduced the specialized programs being offered at SPA specially Master of School Management and MS School Leadership and Management. Dr Naveed Yazdani reflected on the country’s current state of schools and suggested on developing and inculcating critical thinking and transformative teaching and learning skills. The Day-I the key note speaker was Dr Tariq Cheema, an internationally recognized philanthropist and the founder of The World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists. He earned a Certificate of Advanced Study in Philanthropy at Loyola University Chicago. He ranks among the 500 most influential Muslims consecutively since 2009, impacting the world today. In addition to his philanthropic endeavours, he is the principal shareholder of Southeast Business (SBG) Group, a multinational social enterprise dedicated to promote trade between the emerging economies. Over the past two decades, he has contributed to the development of numerous successful social initiatives such as Global Donors Forum, Doctors Worldwide; Diversity Forums; US National Network for Diaspora Giving; Academy of Philanthropy; Indo-Pak Peace Network and and Muslim Science and Technology Innovation initiative aiming to develop a “Knowledge Ecosystem” for economic and social benefit in OIC member countries. He critically reflected on the the NGO’s role in promoting education is developing countries and added motivational gestures in his argument by sharing personal examples and suggested that each one of us should take the responsibility in contributing in raising the country’s academic standard. He appreciated the Leaders’ Club events for promoting and contributing in school improvement. Brg ( R ) Irfan Ali author of book “Balance in Life” highlighted the students’ grooming and personality development as one of the grave issue for the schools. He enlightened the participants with some solution and strategies to groom the young generation in the right directions. Pak-Turk School system also participated in the first day of educational conference by sharing their best academic practices and how they are contributing in improving the country’s current state of education. During the program the participants were entertained with some motivational videos and exciting skits of the “The Leaders’ Club” activities. In the end Dr Farhat Munir presented souvenirs to the guest speakers. (Dr Tariq Cheema and Mr Mehmet from Pak-Turk School system). The program was concluded with the sharing of Day-II agenda and activities. The day one was the also the reflection of excellent team work of MS SLM professionals and scholars at University of Management & Technology. They have conducted the whole event in a much synchronized way. Educational Conference on “Developing School Leaders & Teachers” Day-II Day-II was commenced by 9:30 am with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an and National anthem. About 300 participants were present in the Conference Hall. Ms Nusrat Hamdani represented the Knowledge school system and gave a presentation on the achievements and success story of and educational system by reflecting on best academic practices. She shared a vision about where they see knowledge school system in terms of attaining quality teaching and learning target and objectives. Then the presenter from an emerging educational system “The Silk School” also shared their success story and their standards of academic quality. Then the presenters’ detailed introduction was shared with the participants. The participants were distributed into three groups keeping in view their professional areas. There were Directors, deputy directors, principals, vice principals, coordinators, teachers, school heads, manager admin, accountants and sports in- charge. The venues were given the specific themes Venue -1: was reserved for the directors, deputy directors, principals and school heads. There two presenters. Mr Naseer Ahmmed and Mr Attique Ahmmed Theme • School leaders’ role as HR managers (Challenges for recruiting, training and retaining staff) • Conducting effective training need analysis for performance management The venue-1 was lead by Mr Attique Ahmmed and Mr Naseer Ahmmed Mr Attique Ahmmed having an extensive experience with diversified areas of e-Government, Leadership, Business Analysis, Strategic Marketing, Strategic Management, Organizational Development, Life Skills, Project Management, IT/ IS Management ranging from Training, Policy development and implementation. Mr Attique Ahmmed conducted an interactive session on the following areas: 1. Role of School Management to develop professional development resulting to organizational development 2. Principal as decision maker to develop team 3. Human Resource Management in Schools (In today's Technological world) 4. Running schools as business by practicing best business values Mr Naseer a certified trainer. He has been working with Save the Children Sweden during earthquake in 2005. He accomplished his distinction in Education and the first graduate of AIE appointed as a faculty member.He has designed a number of training manuals on pedagogical Skills, classroom Management school management. 1. Significance of Training Need Analysis (TNA) 2. Strategies to conduct effective TNA 3. Effective TNA a source of increasing and managing staff performance Venue-2: was reserved for the teachers, academic coordinators and senior mistresses. There were two presenters • Brg (R ) Irfan Ali • Ms Arooj Quraishi Theme 1: Cognitive Teaching Skills 2. Students Grooming and personality development Bgr ( R ) Irfan Ali; a personality with diversified experience and recognition at highest level: as a Soldier, writer of 16 books on professional subjects, doctrinal researcher, a crisis manager with exemplary contribution to national cause, and distinguished motivational speaker with focus on grooming of youth. Brg (R ) Irfan Ali delivered an interactive and motivational session with the teachers, academic coordinators and senior mistresses about personality development and grooming of students as a challenge. He also reflected upon extra ordinarily fast technological development and indulgence of Children and Youth, socio cultural transformation in life mode, decline in personality and character building by formal and informal institutions, lesser Exposure to Inspirational Models. Ms Arooj Ahmmed Quraushi from one of the recognized private education system, a senior and certified trainer motivated, versatile administrator, highly qualified responsible for: technology integration, software analysis and review, and examinations of more than 100 primary and secondary schools all across Pakistan. She demonstrated an interesting and interactive session on cognitive teaching skills and assessment strategies. She demonstrated how teachers can facilitate quality teaching and learning by applying cognitive teaching strategies and addressing higher order learning requirements. Venue-3: Vice principals, manager admin, accountants, and sports in-charge Theme: School Physical Safety and Security (Schools’ While team Responsibility approach) This venue was lead by Col (R) Riaz Ul Haq Col Riaz ul Haq as permanent member of “The Leaders’ Club” He joined Pakistan Army in April 1971, participated in the 1971 Indo Pak War in the attack on Hussain -i - Walla in the Kasur Sector. He also participated in the Baluchistan insurgency in Mashkay and Wad areas from 1974 to75.He served as an instructer at the prestigious School of Infantry &Tactics from 1976-79 and as Officer Commanding, Tactiscs Wing from1993 -96. He is a graduate of Command & Staff College Quetta and did Masters in War Studies from The National Defence College. Post retirement he remained Principal APS&C Gujranwala for 5 year's, Secretary Servises Club, (DeSOM), GM ASKARI CNG and for past 8 years with The City School as Campus manager looking after Security and Admin. Col Riaz ul Haq conducted a detailed sessions with drill based approach. He demonstrated the whole school safety and security plan with very interesting activities keeping in view the prevailing situation of security threats to schools. This session was the extension of the previous session planned by “The Leaders Club” January 2016 on the demand of the schools. All the venues were concluded by 12:45pm and by 1 o’clock the Chief Guest Director General University of Management & Technology Mr Abid Sherwani arrived and distributed certificates to the participants and souvenirs to the presenters. DG University of Management & Technology concluded the session by appreciating the participants for attending two days academic forum, he also valued the efforts of students of Master of School Management and Ms School Leadership and Management and suggested that such type of collaboration should be the regular feature. He emphasized that without adapting updated academic practices we can compete the global academic market. The two days education conference on “Developing School Leaders and teachers” ended with the commitment that such type of event will be conducted on regular basis to decrease the gap between universities and schools. The participants commented that such kind of efforts by the universities will provide a great support in school improvement. I being the program head want to convey special thank to the Rector University of Management & Technology for giving an idea, I will extend my gratitude to DG UMT for providing support and joining us to encourage our initiative, I will also express my gratefulness to the head and members of OFM OCM for making arrangement in such a short time and facilitating us with all the available resources.
