Seminar: Success factors in supply chain
March 26, 2010
 

The CSCR Supply Chain Forum, Dr Hasan Murad School of Management (HSM), UMT organized a seminar on “The success factors in supply chain” on March 26, 2010. The seminar was attended by more than 20 supply chain professionals from different organization, 5 faculty members of HSM and more than 20 supply chain students.

The proceedings began with recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran by Hafiz Shafaqat Ali.  Ijaz Yusuf, Director, Center for Supply Chain Research (CSCR), welcomed all participants and explained the Center's activities for industry and academia. He said that the  CSCR Supply Chain Forum has been set up to bring about improvement in supply chain through communication, coordination and collaboration, and act as a bridge between industry and academia.

Irfan R Farooqui, Senior Manager Supply Chain, Century Paper & Board Mills Ltd.,shared his views and experiences on the factors leading to success in supply chain.  He said that each link in the supply chain is important but not critical. He identified different critical functional areas for different types of supply chains.

After the  presentation, during question and answer session, the participants discussed new unexplored areas of supply chain for future research. They also discussed the role of human resource in the supply chain.

At the end of the seminar, Dr Sarwar Azhar, Dean HSM, thanked the speaker, sponsor and participants of the seminar. In his closing remarks, he encouraged CSCR to continue organizing such activities. He said that supply chain should focus on lowering cost along with customer satisfaction. He shared some future research areas in the field of supply chain, such as the relationship between humans and systems in the Pakistani environment. He asked the participants to conduct research in HR perspective of supply chain management.

At the end, Dr Sarwar Azhar presented mementos to the Irfan R Farooqui, the speaker on the occasion, and Muhammad Hussain, CEO Express Pac pvt. Ltd. and sponsor of the 1st CSCR Supply Chain Forum.
