Aqeel Arshad from the Electrical Engineering Department at UMT represented the University at the 2-Day Vice Chancellors’ Forum on “Higher Education in the Islamic World: Challenges and Opportunities” organized at Serena Hotel, Islamabad by COMSATS Institute of Information Technology in collaboration with the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan, and Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW).
In this forum more than three hundred Vice Chancellors were invited from all over the Islamic world to discuss the different challenges being faced by Islamic nations in education sector. The forum discussed governance, knowledge management, quality assurance, and science, technology and innovation.

The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony was Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani. He took this opportunity to emphasize on Islamic world collaboration in the educational sector and steps taken by his government to improve the education sector in Pakistan. Later,
Vice Chancellors of different universities interacted with each other and visited the different stalls set up by the participating universities. They also wanted to know what opportunities these universities offer to foreign students. Many people also visited the UMT stall and took away the university brochures and other promotional material.
Many visitors were interested in the projects being done in Electrical Engineering Department, UMT. The GSM Based weather Measurement system project was very informative for the visitors. The professors from Agriculture University wanted it for their agriculture fields. It was a very good idea exchange program, which helped local and international Islamic universities to know about each other.
Almost all the Vice Chancellors from the Islamic world signed MoUs to offer different scholarships to students. COMSAT University announced about 500 Scholarships for Islamic countries. The Forum provided an excellent opportunity for developing and promoting linkages among universities/higher education institutions in the Islamic world. Vice Chancellors from different universities presented on different topics and urged on the Islamic world unity and collaboration in the field of education.
