The First UMT Employees Day and Night Soccer Tournament 2010 was organized by the Office of Human Resources (OHR) in collaboration with the Office of Participants Affairs (OPA) A total of 8 teams participated in the tournament. These included OTR Warriors, Registrar VII, OFM Football Team, Xeon Football Team, UMT Royal, SST Lions, Hungry Tigers and Lahore Badshah. There were two pools comprising of four teams each.
The first semi-final was played between Registrar VII and UMT Royal. The second semi-final was played between SST Lions and Xeon Football Team. UMT Royal and SST Lions made it to the final match. Finally, UMT Royal won the tournament while SST Lions were declared runners up.
Kamran Rashid, Assistant Professor HSM and Captain of the UMT Royal team, was declared 'Man of the Tournament'. He not only saved numerous goals as goal keeper in the whole tournament but also played exceptionally well and scored remarkable goals for his team. The audience also applauded the efforts and sportsmanship displayed by Dr Sarwar M Azhar, Dr Tashfeen M Azhar, Salman Saeed Qureshi and Asif Saeed Haider.
Abid H K Sherwani, Director External Affairs, was the chief guest for the final match. Addressing on the occasion, he appreciated the efforts of OHR and OPA for providing an opportunity to UMT employees to indulge in such sports activities and commended the organizing committee for managing the event so well. He also requested OHR to make this event as permanent activity in their calendar every year. Salman Saeed Qureshi, Registrar UMT, emphasized that OHR should continue to organize such sports tournaments in the future as well. On the whole, the First UMT Employees Day and Night Soccer 2010 was an exciting event that allowed the UMT community to interact with each other in friendly competition.
