A Talk on Feminism in Islam

Department of Gender Studies at the School of Advanced Studies, UMT arranged "A talk on Feminism in Islam" on 27th February 2017, in connection with International Women's Day. Professor Emerita Dr Riffat Hassan, with a rich background in Religious Studies and Philosophy, enlightened the audience with her research on Qura'nic interpretations as regards to the age-old debates on women's rights and concept of Emancipation of women in Islam v/s Feminism. Ms Romasa Nasir recited verses from Qur'an at the beginning of the session and Ms Ambreen Salahuddin, In-charge Department of Gender Studies welcomed the guests. The audience, comprising of faculty and students of diverse disciplines participated enthusiastically in the Q&A session.
