Rector's and Dean's Merit Award Ceremony
February 17, 2017

University of Management and Technology (UMT) has always recognized the talent of students and their passion for getting knowledge and performing better throughout their academic paths. Recently, more than three-hundred brilliant eagles were applauded and given the confidence to move ahead and make a difference in the academic career during the Rector’s and Deans’ Merit Award Ceremony. These youngsters have got sharp vision after drinking from the fountain of knowledge, a perfect sense of conquering the world and a passion for leading in their respective fields. Their teachers, heads of departments and deans also deserve great appreciation who taught them how to open up new vistas of triumph and exercise the patience of a saint until they’re officially labeled as winners. As many as 177 males and 190 female students secured merit awards. The School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH) led by Prof. Dr. Abdul Hameed had the highest number of merit award winners. A total of 64 students from SSSH were conferred upon Rector’s and Deans’ merit awards followed by Dr Hasan Murad School of Management (HSM) that succeeded in claiming 55 titles. HSM’s American Dean Mr. Bob Wheeler is a terrific man who wants to transform the business culture of Wall Street to Pakistan and his students seem energetic to apply new business ideas side by side their studies. Likewise, UMT’s every dean and director is trying his or her best to translate the vision of the Rector Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad who wants to see the students as the leaders of their fields and champions when they step in practical life. Some 35 students from the School of Systems and Technology (SST), 28 from School of Engineering (SEN), 33 from School of Commerce (SCA), 21 from School of Science (SSC), 22 from School of Textile and Design (STD), 13 from School of Architecture and Planning (SAP), 21 from School of Health Sciences (SHS), 37 from School of Professional Advancement (SPA), 6 from School of Law and Policy (SLP), 4 from School of Governance and Society (SGS), 18 from Institute of Aviation Studies (IAS), 8 from Institute of Communication and Cultural Studies (ICCS) and 2 from Institute of Banking and Finance qualified for the Rector’s and Deans’ merit awards respectively. Speaking on the occasion, Rector Dr. Murad Hasan Sohaib Murad said that he was delighted to see talented and hardworking students making headway in their studies. He said there was no better and attractive idea than hardworking and those who put this idea into practice will be successful in their practical life, too. He said other students should follow the example of winners and try to make a difference in the remaining semesters. He said UMT was proud of intelligent students and it meant a lot to us to have young talent with us who have achieved academic leadership by studying day and night. He said the varsity recognized the merit and distinguished the best from better one. Advising the students, Dr. Hasan said: “Refine yourself, polish your skills and try better and better” so that challenges are addressed effectively. He emphasized on the students to “think smarter and work smarter” and “make the portfolio of skills and talents when your university crafts in you and be creative as well as adventurous” to discover a new world for yourself and for your fellow human beings”. The Rector said that the practice of working hard should continue lifetime as it is a healthy habit that has the power to turn failure into success, negativism into positivism, laziness into energy, and despair into bliss. Dr. Murad said it is the knowledge that brings wisdom to figure out worldly matters so the process of learning and grasping it should continue throughout life. He also read some verses from Allama Iqbal’s poetry and encouraged the students to read, learn and lead, as it is their era to show their potential. Later on, he along with deans of respective schools gave away merit awards among the winners. The Rector’s and Deans’ Merit Award Ceremony was organized by Office of Controller Examinations in a very effective and disciplined way. The Controller Examinations Mr. Saleem Ata and his team deserve great appreciation for hosting this beautiful ceremony.
